A Call to Repentance

Jun 21, 2012 | Uncategorized

Joel 2:12-13 12 That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. 13 Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.

There will come a day when Almighty God will redeem His chosen people on this earth. When that day comes, will you and me be part of that redemption? That time will come, no doubt. Everything has to end. And when everything ends, will we be part of the new creation?

That is why the pleading of the portion of scripture above, Joel 2:12-13, is of utmost importance. Especially in this time and age.

God gives us all the opportunity to come back to Him. It is written all over the Bible. In our everyday living, the opportunities to bring ourselves back to Jesus abounds. We can never say that God held back or we had to beg to be taken back. No. Jesus gives us all the chance that we need to come back.

Sadly, we often miss it.

God says, “Turn to me now, while there is time.” Yes, there is still time. Time to repent of our sins and take the narrow path back to Jesus. Repentance isn’t always easy, we don’t make it easy. God says, “Don’t tear your clothing grief,” which is just an external emphasis. These acts don’t matter. What God wants is an internal change, “…but tear your hearts instead.”

Let is not have the illusion that we cannot reach out to God even though everyday He reaches out to us. The scriptures says, “…for He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.”
