And what is that masterpiece, you may ask? Well, I’m referring to you–yes you. Consider what Cathy Irvin of cbn.com wrote at their devotional site:

The Lord dropped a thought in my heart. He loves us so much he chose not to live without us at the beginning of creation nor when He went to the cross! We are His greatest work of art, so valuable that He says we are the apples of His eye.

This is great stuff! We were the last to be created by God. We fulfilled His longing for a personal relationship. He already created the universe back then. Even though that relationship was marred by sin, God still loved us. We are still valuable to Him, His masterpiece.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10)

Workmanship means that we were “worked out” with great care. We were planned and designed. There were details, minute details. And each of them God took the “pains” to perfect them. It must have been so painful to God when the first man and woman sinned. But His love and longing for us overcame Him that He also made a way for our salvation.

That’s how valuable we are to God. Remember that always. Let us not give Him more pain with continued sin. If we truly love God, we will strive to “get rid of the sin that so easily encumbers us” and make Him happy.
