App Review: YouVersion, the Bible App

Jan 7, 2013 | Uncategorized

If you only have a King James Version in your mobile device and have been longing for a more contemporary version, then this post if four you! I am referring to YouVersion, the Bible App, Developed buy LifeChurch.tv. It is compatible with iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows Phone, Symbian for Nokia phones, the Kindle Fire and of course on their website.

The iOS iPhone app is elegantly done and uses the now familiar sliders to get to the features. Aside from having dozens of versions of the Bible that you can read when you are online, they offer Reading Plans which are authored by many popular personalities. The plans range in length from 5-7 days to a yearlong Bible reading plan.

Other features include bookmarking, reading history, notes taking, social sharing and a lot more. BTW, the founder, Bobby Gruenweld, told us that this app was one of the first bible app to appear when the iPad launched. True-to-form, this app has surely matured. I’ve actually downloaded that app when I had my iPad two years ago but was turned off for the lack of offline access to the bible.

No anymore.

For a limited time, up to January 21, users of the app can now download contemporary versions of the Bible like the New International Version (NIV), The Message (which I have been longing to have), the New King James Version (NKJV) and over 20 other translations. So after reading this, head on to your respective app stores and download YouVersion, the Bible app and get the offline versions of your favorite translation of the Bible!

SHAMELESS PLUG: Don’t forget to check out the reading plan of The 700 Club Asia’s host, Peter M. Kairuz at YouVersion entitled, “How Is Your Heart Today“!
