Book Review: Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus

One of the most remarkable books that I have read in a long while is Nabeel Qureshi’s “Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus” a book about a devout Muslim encountering Christianity. I just finished reading this book and gave me quite a lot of insights on a Muslim’s life.

Nabeel chronicles his life from the prayer that his father whispered into his ear when he was born, to his upbringing in a devout, tightly knit Muslim home, to his encounter with David, who came to be his best friend who introduced a historical Jesus to him in an intellectual way, up to his struggles and dreams prior to receiving Jesus as his Lord and Savior.

The author also explains the many deeply held Islamic beliefs, or aqeedah, held by his family like the adhan or the Muslim call to prayer, to the hadith, the traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, to attending jamaat or assembly. It was very enlightening for me to know all these things and Nabeel explained it in the book in a very tender and unprovoking manner.

It is also a very intimate autobiography. You can feel the sincerity of each and every word, especially his love for his mother whom he fondly calls Ammi and Abba, his father, to whom he dedicates the book.

Nabeel’s journey is deeply touching. You can feel his passion in reaching the lost using the knowledge that he acquired during his research on Islam and Christianity. He was not acquiescent in his early interaction with Christianity but later on, when many pieces of evidence overwhelmed what he knew, and Jesus doing something profound to prove Himself, Nabeel was obedient, even to the point where he sacrificed his relationship with his family.

I highly recommend this book. Its description on Amazon says its 368 pages long (I read mine in the Olive Tree Bible+ app) but it’s nowhere near boring. I read this during my commute and every time when I was getting off, I was frustrated because I still wanted to read. It is that good!

I don’t know if this book is available locally in the Philippines because I bought my copy on sale for $2.99 at the Olive Tree Bible+ app for the iPad, but on Amazon, it’s $9.96 on Kindle and $10.48 on paperback.
